Accusations of assault between Peterborough City Councillors to be assessed by police

Police will assess accusations of assault made against two Peterborough City Councillors after they were involved in an altercation with each other.

The incident occurred at the end of a Full Council meeting on Monday, May 23.

Both Councillor John Shearman, Labour member for Park Ward, and Councillor David Seaton, a member of the cabinet and Conservative member for Hampton Vale, submitted complaints against each other to the council.

A council spokeswoman said: “The complaints have been reviewed under the council’s code of conduct and have been referred to the police to see if there is a case to answer in relation to the accusations of assault.”
