Police appeal after body found in river near Deeping St James

Lincolnshire Police have issued an appeal for information after the body of an elderly woman was found in the River Welland near Deeping St James.

Police released a statement after the woman’s body was found by a local person early this morning (Sunday, April 12).

The statement said: “We are trying to identify the body of a woman found in the River Welland close to houses on Eastgate, Deeping St James.

“Officers were called to the area at 7.30am on Sunday 12th April by a local resident.

“The woman was recovered from the water a short time later. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“The woman is thought to be in her late 70s/80s. She is around 5ft 4, of medium build, with white/grey hair and she was wearing a woollen coat over an orange top, headscarf, blue socks and sandals.

“We are currently undertaking enquiries to identify the woman, establish the circumstances leading up to her death and to trace her family.

“We are appealing to the public for help and to ask that anyone who recognises the description of the woman to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
