Peterborough fire crews give bonfire warning

Residents are being warned of the dangers of lighting bonfires after fire fighters were called to a blaze in Peterborough

At 5.50pm yesterdat a crew from Dogsthorpe was called to a fire on Lincoln Road in Millfield, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a bonfire that was out of control in a garden. They extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 6.20pm.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Lighting any kind of fire poses risks. Having a bonfire in your garden might seem a good idea to get rid of waste from a clear out, but these can easily get out of control. It could also aggravate health conditions for neighbours, particularly if they are isolating due to COVID-19 symptoms.

“We would urge residents to think twice before lighting a fire and consider the impact it might have.”
