Bookkeeper Kevin Bird told the Peterborough Telegraph: “I’m sure I had more than 40 calls before 9.30am. I would not normally expect to have more than four or five in the morning.

“When we saw what the winds were like yesterday afternoon we ordered more timber to come in so we were prepared for it.

“Trees were going down and taking fences with them. It’s now a case of taking the mess away and starting again.”

Peterborough City Council said the amount of damage from the storm was approximately £5,000 with around 50 trees damaged.
