Christmas shoppers fell silent in Peterborough city centre today (Thursday) as part of a memorial service to give thanks to the armed forces.
A short service was held at the War Memorial in Bridge Street this morning.
Wreaths were laid, and prayers said in thanks to the sacrifices made by men and women from our city.
Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes, who took part in the service, said: “It is an absolute privilege to join together with city leaders veterans and cadets to lay a wreath.
“We are an incredibly proud city, we owe a huge debt to those people who have given their lives protecting and standing up for our country, and for those who have served and continue to serve.
"To me this is about Peterborough coming together and looking out for those people in uniform, those people who are veterans, and saying that we remember you, particularly at this time, when we know many of our armed forces are serving overseas and looking after our national interests.”
