Watch as apprentices tell of their hopes in the world of work at Peterborough's National Gas
Apprentices with Peterborough-based National Gas have spoken of their hopes for the future after the company announced an £870 million investment.
Much of the investment will be spent in the Peterborough area and will also power the opening of a new regional headquarters in the city as well as the creation of 250 jobs.
Company bosses and politicians welcomed the investment and said it would lead to further recruitment of talented apprentices to secure the workforce of the future.
Two of the apprentices – Emily Mehedintu (19) from Peterborough and who studied at Ormiston Bushfield Academy in Peterborough, and Ben Eva (19) of Lincoln – spoke about some of their experiences.

Emily, who is doing a project management degree apprentice, which involves study at university and at work, said: “I often go out on site and see the experiences of project management live and in action.
"It is really useful because I learn the theory and also see it happening in person so I can connect that and see what transferable skills I learn from my degree and how I can apply it to the gas industry.
"Once I’ve completed my apprenticeship I should come out of it as a project supervisor and then progress into a project management role to apply my skills a bit further.,
"National Gas is a great company to work for.”

Ben Eva (19) of Lincoln, who is a degree apprentice studying project management, said: “It offers a good blend of education and work experience.
"So half of my time involves going to university and the other half includes going to work and shadowing current project managers and getting that real world experience of work as you move into a role after the apprenticeship.
"I’m enjoying it and I feel it will set me up well in to a career.”
