Take a look as Beales prepares for early opening in Peterborough

Hopes are growing for an earlier than expected opening for the new Beales store in Peterborough.

Beales chief executive Tony Brown says the installation of fixtures and fittings and stocking up has progressed so well that it is hoped the store will open several days earlier than originally planned.

He said: “I’m just waiting on some fashion stock and if all goes well, I hope we can open on the Thursday or Friday of next week.”

The original expectation had been for the store in Westgate to open in the first week of May.

Beales closed last year after the national department store chain went into administration.

The retailer was given a new lease of life after the brand and online address were bought by New Start 2020, of which Mr Brown is a director.

Getting the Peterborough Beales store back on its feet has meant an investment in excess of £250,000 and has created 30 jobs with many expected to be filled by former Beales staff.

Mr Brown said the new store would only operate from the ground floor - the former store had filled two storeys- and would have a high proportion of concessions.

The store will feature fashion, home furnishings, shoes, gardening equipment, a cafe and much more and will also trade online.
