'Someone will be killed:' Call for action on Peterborough street residents say is used like a race track
Residents have made a call for action to tackle speeding on a Peterborough street – before someone is killed.
People living on Atherstone Avenue in Ravensthorpe have made the call following a series of incidents involving crashes on the street.
Some collisions have even seen cars crash through garden walls and into houses.
The latest serious incident happened on Friday, May 15, with a woman and a teenager needing hospital treatment following a collision involving two BMWs and a Toyota.

Speaking to The Peterborough Telegraph, resident Michael Todd said: “I’ve seen cars racing, I’ve seen them go on the path, I’ve seen cars crash. It goes on every night.
"Somebody will be killed. It is definitely on the cards that somebody will be killed eventually. I’ve seen very near misses.
“I’d like to see speed cameras or humps on the road.”
Fellow Atherstone Avenue resident Colin Hammond added: “There have been lots of issues, mainly youngsters driving fast cars and crashing into houses, crashing into other cars, causing accidents and injuring people.
"We have been to the council a few times now, we’ve had the MP come over, but nothing has been done yet.
"What we’d like as a community is speed bumps, speed cameras – or anything that would deter them from speeding.
"It happens quite often, mainly around weekends and in the evenings and at night.
"There are three schools around here, and the traffic is horrendous. Something needs to be done.”
Councillor Raja Sabeel Ahmed, Ravensthorpe ward councillor said action was needed – not words. He said: “For the last few years, speeding has been the number one issue in this part of my ward, and I have been highlighting that with council officers.
“This is a major issue, and recently we saw another accident happen. I want action from the council. I want them to come out and have a site meeting with the residents. We don’t want promises, we want action. We want to see physical measures put in place on Atherstone Avenue and Ledbury Road where speeding is a major issue.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on May 15.
