‘Significant’ rainfall finally forecast for Peterborough this week as heatwave comes to an end - here’s exactly when you can expect it
Peterborough last experienced meaningful rainfall in early June
Peterborough finally looks set for rain this week after more than two months of hot and dry conditions.
Just 0.1mm of rain fell in the city during July as temperatures hit 36.7C, prompting Anglian Water to issue a hosepipe ban.
Peterborough - along with the wider East Anglia region - is now officially in drought after weeks of extreme summer temperatures.
But there is some welcome news in this week's forecast, with temperatures set to become cooler and rain to sweep across the country.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: “I can't promise rain for all of us through the week ahead, but in the south at least, it's looking like the most changeable week we've seen here - well at least since the end of June.”
Peterborough is also set for a welcome reprieve from scorching temperatures, with highs of just 23C expected this week.

Some northern parts of the country will see showers throughout the week, but here in Peterborough rain is first expected on Thursday (August 20).
According to BBC Weather, residents can expect a mix of light rain showers and sunshine between 11am and 7pm on Thursday.
Friday (August 21) looks to be the coolest day of the week, with highs of 19C and light showers between 2pm and 6pm.
