Serious safety concerns raised about Peterborough footpath being used by drivers

Serious safety concerns have been raised at a footpath in Peterborough, that drivers are suspected to have been using in their vehicles.

All of the concerns raised by residents concern the footpath which connects Falconer Mews and Collier Mews in Manor Drive.

The path has always been intended for pedestrian use only and was never designed to accommodate vehicles but residents have reported seeing drivers use it as a shortcut; suspecting that drivers are using it as a shortcut to avoid the part tarmacked part not Arkwright Way.

Andrew Macfarlaine said: “Residents should not have to fear cars driving through an area meant to be safe for walking.

"The risk to pedestrians—particularly children—is very real. If someone were to be injured, serious questions would rightly be asked about how such a hazardous situation was allowed to continue.

“This situation is completely unacceptable. I am closely monitoring developments and will take action to ensure that vehicles are prevented from using the footpath and that appropriate safety measures are reinstated as a matter of urgency.”

Among the actions that residents have called for are temporary bollards.
