Salad meals maker Greencore to recruit 280 staff for its Fenland sites

About 280 jobs are being created by a leading convenience food manufacturer with sites in Peterborough and the surrounding area.

The chilled meals maker, Greencore is looking to hire skilled and unskilled staff as it prepares for a growth in orders.

A spokesman said: “We are recruiting for just under 200 permanent skilled and unskilled site operative roles evenly split across our salads sites in Boston and Spalding and 80 for our ready meals site at Wisbech.

“The sites produce products for retailers and foodservice outlets, such as restaurants, and the ramp up is due to business growth as we come out of lockdown.

“It is also accelerated as we move into the summer months – which traditionally sees a large growth in salad sales.

He added: “As lockdown eases people will start to return to their places of work and this should see an uplift sales of food to go salads as people will buy these products to eat in their lunch breaks.

“And as the food service sector opens up we will see an increase in sales of our side of plate salads, but also as people are now able to visit each other in their gardens and homes, there will also be an uplift in demand as people start to entertain again as the temperature rises.”

The £1.5 billion a year turnover company employs about 500 people at its Spalding factory plus 600 staff in Boston and a further 500 at Wisbech as well as 37 people at its distribution depot in Stirling Way, in Peterborough.
