Route cleared for changes to access and exit from retail park in Peterborough to cut queuing traffic
Concerns over traffic access to a retail park in Peterborough looked to have been resolved in a bid to reduce vehicle queues.
Plans to change the routes in and out of the Boongate Retail Park were revealed two years ago in a bid to encourage more visitors to the venue.
Daejan Retail Properties, the park owners, were seeking approval to change the entrances and exit to ease the problem of traffic queues.
The proposed changes involve creating a left and right entry from Boongate – at the moment it has a left-only entrance – and creating a left-only exit.

While the Carr Road junction is to be modified as part of the redesign of the car park, its use will remain as a left and right exit.
It is stated that the improvements will mean the creation of 31 extra parking spaces, bringing the total number of parking spaces to 358.
A spokesperson for the highway design specialists Connect Consultants states: “The development is likely to result in a reduction in traffic at the A1139 / Boongate roundabout.”
While Peterborough City Council had approved the application two years ago officers had set down a number of conditions that needed to be met before works could go ahead.
They included a minor realignment of the exit lane onto Boongate, as well as a management plan for dealing with construction traffic and a survey of nearby trees.
Now the council has approved proposals to meet the conditions at the park which is home to The Range, B&M Bargains, Topps Tiles, and formerly Frankie & Benny's, which is expected to be replaced by a Burger King drive-thru.
