Data has revealed Peterborough’s noise pollution hot spots, with residents able to check how loud their part of the city is.
The Indices of Deprivation (IoD) 2025 Noise Pollution indicator represents the percentage of the population of each ward exposed to noise pollution greater than 55dB Lden (day–evening–night noise level).
The Lden metric, also referred to as the 'day-evening-night level', represents the average annual long-term noise over 24 hours.
According to the Indices of Deprivation 2025 Noise Pollution report, the 55 dB Lden threshold was selected because it is generally regarded as the level at which potentially harmful effects begin to occur and aligns with the minimum noise band required for strategic noise mapping.
