To help celebrate National Fish and Chip Day on June 6, the Peterborough Telegraph published a round-up of the ‘best’ chippies in the area.
The article was compiled using current data, as the ten fish and chip shops that made our list were based on the latest ratings from Tripadvisor.
While some readers agreed with our round-up many – and we mean many – did not, with scores of people outraged that their favourite chippies did not make the cut.
"Two with national-winning awards in Marketing Deeping and not a mention?” exclaimed one disgruntled PT reader.
Indeed, the enthusiastic and often passionately-worded feedback we received made it clear we would have to look into this hotly-debated topic further.
And so, after a full week of sieving through social media comments and grilling they city’s most ardent fish and chip fans, we have put together a second list – the PT readers’ choice of Peterborough’s finest fish and chip shops.
We feel confident that, between this list and the previous one based on Tripadvisor’s ratings, we will have comprehensively showcased the best chippies our fine city (and its surrounding villages) has to offer.
Well, fairly confident.
And if we haven’t then we’re sure someone will tell us otherwise…
So sit back with a butty, break out the curry sauce and join us as we take you – in no particular order – through the definitive list of the best* fish and chip shops in Peterborough.

1. Salt N Vinegar
Pip Cunnington, Nigel Game, Michael John and Kevin Pearce were among those mortified that this Werrington institution on Lincoln Road didn't make our original list. Talib Hassan summed up this popular chippy's offerings in just one word: "outstanding!" Photo: Google

2. Fletton Fish & Chips
There was a lot of love for this popular fish bar on Fletton High Street. Along with shout outs from the likes of Mohammed Yassar and Kevin Pearce, Fletton Fish & Chips gained a rating of "Best around" from PT reader Mandy Eastabrook. Photo: Google
