The Principal’s House at the school was severely damaged when the blaze broke out last week.
The fire is thought to have started when a mouse bit through electrical cables in the loft.
Now a group of sixth formers are rallying round to raise money for The Firefighters’ Charity top thank the crews who worked at the scene.
The group are aiming to run, walk and cycle 576km, the length of the ENglish Channel.
A fundraising page has been set up to help raise as much money as possible.
The page says: “On Friday 12th June 2020, smoke engulfed Stamford as a large fire took hold of the Principal’s house at the Stamford Endowed Schools on St Paul’s Street. Everyone on site was evacuated immediately and we are immensely thankful that no-one was hurt. Six appliances attended on the day to support: five from Lincolnshire (Stamford, Grantham, Market Deeping, Bourne and Boston) and an appliance from Leicestershire. The fire started on an upper floor of the Principal’s house and took hold very quickly.
“Our sincere thanks go to each member of our community who offered their help and support during the fire. We are also extremely grateful to the emergency services for their swift actions that afternoon, which helped to contain the fire and prevented it from doing further damage.
“Mr Phelan, the Schools’ Principal, and his family are extremely thankful for all that was done to support them at this time. On the day, many Stamfordians and members of the general public wanted to do something to help and the students of the Schools have expressed a want to show their support for our local firefighters who work so tirelessly.
“With this in mind, the Stamford Endowed Schools’ prefects are raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity, a charity supported by the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service, who provide mental, physical and social support to UK fire fighters that are in need. The everyday heroes of the UK fire and rescue community regularly face traumatic life and death situations and The Fire Fighters Charity supports them whether injured, ill or in need of psychological support. The Fire Fighters Charity was founded during the dark days of the Blitz to support the bereaved families of brave firefighters who had laid down their lives to tackle the devastation seen across the capital. “With the ambition to raise money, prefects from both Stamford High School and Stamford School will be running, walking or cycling the collective distance of the British Channel (576km) independently of one another, due to the impact of COVID-19, and progress will be shared online.”
