Plans to convert Hampton Hargate house into children’s home withdrawn due to parking concerns

The local highway authority objected to the plans

Plans to convert a house into a children’s care home in a Peterborough neighbourhood have been withdrawn following a number of objections.

The proposed children’s home would have been located at number 18 Marketstede in Hampton Hargate and would have accommodated a maximum of four children aged between eight and 17 years old.

Applicant, Dexter Lee Holdings Ltd, stated within the planning application that it would create a “family-style, homely environment” for the children and the home would have “minimal impact” on the character of the surrounding residential area.

The aim was to provide care for children requiring general residential support and those with mild to moderate emotional and behavioural needs.

Plans stated: “The home will integrate positively within the community, promoting neighbourly relations and community cohesion.”

However, the planning application received a number of objections from residents, the parish council and the local highway authority.

Hampton Parish Council objected to the proposal due to “inadequate” parking provision, noting that it would “exacerbate” the existing parking issues in the area.

The local highway authority decided that the proposed development would not provide adequate facilities for parking or manoeuvring of vehicles.

“The manoeuvring of vehicles likely to be generated by the proposed development would have an adverse effect on the safety and free flow of traffic on the adjoining public highway,” the authority said.

The applicant withdrew the plans on Friday, May 30.
