Pioneering robotic prostate treatment launched at Fitzwilliam Hospital in Peterborough
A new pioneering robotic prostate Treatment Launched by Fitzwilliam Hospital in Peterborough.
Fitzwilliam Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK, has announced that men suffering from a benign enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) will be able to receive robotic Aquablation therapy at the hospital.
It is estimated that 3 million men in the UK have lower urinary tract symptoms associated with having an enlarged prostate and that around 35,000 men in the UK will require surgical intervention for this condition.
Aquablation is suitable for men with moderate to severe symptoms who are not getting enough relief from medication or who want to avoid the sexual side effects often associated with procedures that use heat.

Historically, the procedures available for the treatment of this condition, whilst providing effective symptom relief, may have complications such as incontinence, erectile or ejaculatory dysfunction.
Aquablation therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment for this which offers significantly reduced side effects.
The technology uses imaging, robotics, and a heat-free waterjet to provide long-lasting relief with low rates of complications.
Clinical studies have shown that Aquablation Therapy offers significant symptom relief and low complication rates, regardless of prostate size or shape.
Helen Tait, Hospital Director at Fitzwilliam Hospital commented: “We are pleased to be able to offer this new minimally invasive robotic surgery to our patients. At Fitzwilliam Hospital, our patients are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to helping them improve their quality of life.
"With state-of-the-art technology and a focus on delivering high quality care, we ensure patients receive the treatment they need and support beyond after their surgery or treatment.”
