Peterborough's Oakham Ales looks to overseas expertise for special festival brew

A Peterborough brewery looked overseas for help to create a special beer for a major drinks festival.

Oakham Ales, based in Maxwell Road, Woodston, invited brewers from a Mexican beer specialist to help create a special ale for a spring bee festival.

Staff at Oakham welcomed Jessica Martinez and Sergio Hernandez from the Maltezer Brewery in Mexico to brew their Maltezer Session IPA for the JD Wetherspoon Spring Beer Festival.

The special brew will be Oakham’s Overseas Brewer entry for the festival.

And along with Maltezer Session IPA, another Oakham brewed beer has been chosen to feature in the upcoming festival - Soul Synergy, which is described as a full of flavour and highly refreshing hoppy red ale.

A spokesperson Oakham said: “Jessica’s recipe for the beer – brewed with an all American hop line-up of Cascade, Amarillo and Citra and liberally infused with Hibiscus flowers – has produced a really superb brew.

"It’s one that shouldn’t be missed when it hits your local ‘Spoons.”

It is the fourth time Oakham Ales has been nominated to brew a collaboration beer with an overseas brewer for a Wetherspoon Beer Festival.

It follows on from successful brews with Yazoo Brewery (USA) in 2024 and with Penny Red Brewery (Australia) and Alesmith Brewery (USA) in 2025.

The festival takes place from March 4 to March 15.

Eight months ago, Oakham Ales completed a £500,000 installation of 1,043 solar panels across the roof of its brewery to harness the power of the sun to brew its beers and cut costs..
