The event, held on the second Monday in March each year, is an opportunity for communities and organisations to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy, equality and diversity.

Commonwealth Day 2020 is on Monday, March 9 and the theme this year is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’. The Peterborough event will involve a short ceremony outside the Town Hall in Bridge Street.

A civic procession will leave the Town Hall at 9.53am and the Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr Gul Nawaz, will lead the proceedings at 9.55am. The Commonwealth Flag will then be raised above the Town Hall.

It is the seventh time local authorities, civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles will be taking part in local flag-raising events and ceremonies which totalled more than 800 last year.
