The scheme is run by UK based- Burg-Wächter, Europe’s largert safe and post box manufacturer.

Recently, the company launched a new Secure Communities Scheme which allows community groups who rely on premises, equipment, handling cash or vulnerable individuals in need of increased security the chance to apply to security kits to keep themselves or their projects safe so they can continue supporting the local community.

COPS are one of the lucky groups that applied to have their application granted.

This has seen them awarded a large number of new bike locks to keep their equipment safe, something that has become especially important during the pandemic.

The club attracts swimmers from all over Cambridgeshire to train and compete regionally, nationally and even internationally and draws in all ages and from all backgrounds and levels of physical ability, all of whom want to swim to competitive standards.

With around 50 swimmers attending each session, the club has had to be creative in keeping their swimmers fit over lockdown whilst still operating within the current Covid restrictions.

This has included setting up outdoor conditioning sessions, with activities split between cycling and fitness circuits.

All these activities involved using equipment outdoors and the club was concerned about the security of these items, including the bicycles, so decided to apply to the Secure Communities Scheme to ask for help in locking up and protecting their bikes.

Due to their successful application they have been awarded enough bicycle locks to ensure all could be safely stored when not in active use.

Head coach Ben Negus said: “Our young members are disciplined and committed to their swimming; this dedication has continued through the pandemic.
