Peterborough pub operator invests in PubWars app to revive industry’s spirits

Darren Peachey, director of the Venture Pub Company, which leases a number of licensed premises in the city and beyond, has invested in Low6, the development company behind the PubWars app, which will allow interactive games for cash prizes to be played in and between pubs across the country.

They have also joined forces with media giant Sky to offer wifi and two interactive screens for each pub to show the realtime games, results and leaderboards.

Mr Peachey is planning to trial the new package in his pubs in Peterborough before the venture is rolled out nationally next year.

To join the fun, customers have to download the app from a QR code in the pub of their choice after which the app is always linked to that pub.

Mr Peachey said: “Once signed up we will facilitate all of the installs which will include a new phone line and the latest cloud wifi from Sky.

“The pub will have an interactive quiz/gaming system for their customers to use.

“This will hopefully create more footfall for the publican without them doing anything for it.

“The publican will also be able to connect with their customers through the app for advertising purposes.”

The Venture Pub Company is set to be the first to use PubWars before it is rolled  out nationally.

Mr Peachey said: “We are finishing the wifi installs in our pubs and if we can open in December we will be running a version to ensure it runs smoothly.

He added: “I have been in talks with Sky and the affiliated app company for months trying to make sure that what comes into the pubs is exactly what the pub needs.

“I have also made sure that a certain amount of pubs that get in early do so for free.”
