Peterborough Pride to fall victim to coronavirus pandemic

The axe looks set to fall on Peterborough Pride, an event supporting the city’s LGBTQIA+ community which has gone from strength to strength in recent years.

Organisers are to make an official announcement to confirm in the next few days that this year’s event - scheduled from June 29 to July 12 - including the noisy and colourful spectacular parade and street party in the city centre on July 11 - will be cancelled. Peterborough Pride organiser Simon Green said: “We are under no illusion that the coronavirus will affect what we had planned for Peterborough Pride 2020, therefore we should prepare ourselves for this year’s festival to be cancelled, postponed with no alternative date announced or at the very least scaled back significantly. We intend to make a final decision about whether we go ahead by the beginning of April. Between now and then we will be monitoring the situation very carefully and of course taking direction and advice from all the right authorities. However I am aware that this will be disappointing news for many. Please be assured that we will bounce back. Love and respect will continue to be our message and appreciating those around us, our family, friends and community seems more important now than ever. We will look after each other.”
