Peterborough photographer David Lowndes' favourite Royal pictures - including Queen Elizabeth, King Charles and Prince William - after Buckingham Palace invite

Legendary Peterborough Telegraph photographer David Lowndes is a well known face on our city streets.

‘Lowndsey’ has spent more than 50 years photographing the great and the good in our city – including Royal visitors.

Over the decades he’s had the chance to capture images of all the ‘major’ members of the Royal Family in a range of situations – from the Queen Mother eating an ice cream, to Princess Anne taking a tumble during the Burghley Horse Trials.

After 52 years of service, earlier this month David was invited to Buckingham Palace for the King’s Garden Party.

Following his visit to the Palace, The Peterborough Telegraph asked him to select some of his favourite Royal images from down the years.

Some of his pictures – including the time when the then Prince Charles got stuck in the mud at the East of England Show – will raise a smile

He said: “The Queen Mother and the (current) King are my favourites to photograph. Charles would often stop and have a joke with you.

"I was invited to the Garden Party by the Lord Lieutenant – it was a big honour to be invited, and I took my daughter, Elizabeth with me.

"It was very enjoyable – it was a bit strange not being in the centre of the action, but just being in the crowds!”
