Peterborough Muslims march through city to celebrate birthday of Prophet Muhammad

Annual event saw several thousand worshippers mark one of Islam’s holiest days

Worshippers from across the city marched through the streets of Peterborough on Sunday (August 30) to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

The annual Jaloos saw several thousand people march from Faizan-e-Madina Mosque to Ghousia Masjid in Gladstone Street, beneath blue, rain-free skies.

The Jashn-e-Eid Milaad-un-Nabi march takes place the Sunday after the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (Mawlid al-Nabawi).

This year, that was Tuesday, August 25, which corresponds to 12 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH in the Islamic calendar.

Along with large crowds, the procession saw several brightly decorated cars driven alongside marchers.

Food was served to everyone at the end of the march and religious scholars and speakers attended to speak of the Prophet and his teachings.
