Masjid Ghousia in Gladstone Street wants to add the detached building for “mosque facilities at ground floor level” and accommodation for the imams.

The building, if approved, would be on vacant land which is “not being used for any other purposes” and has “become overgrown with vegetation and rodents which becomes an issue for the Masjid and residents on Clarence Road”.

The application adds that the proposal is a “better option” than building an extension to the mosque and “would not be likely to have any negative impact on the visual appearance to Masjid Ghousia or the street scene”.

The standalone building would also “help to strengthen the vitality and viability of Peterborough,” it is continued.
