William - known as Bill - Sharman was joined by family, staff and friends as he received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of his 100th birthday.

Bill was born on Valentine’s Day in 1920 and lived in Crown Street, New England. He attended Lincoln Road Boys School and worked at Brotherhoods as a mechanical engineer. He is very proud of the nine years he served in the RAF where he served in Malta for two years. Bill married Irene who sadly passed away in 2001 and had two children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The birthday boy, who still has a great sense of humour said: “The secret to a long life is making sure you breathe in and out every day.”
