Thirty-five families have moved into brand new affordable homes in Eye Green thanks to the work of Medesham Homes.

Ward Councillor Steve Allen was invited back to site to see the finished development after laying one of the bricks on a three-bed new build home last year. This site is also the first development Councillor Allen approved last year when he became the new Cabinet Member for Housing.

Joined by Medesham Homes board members Claire Higgins and cllr Peter Hiller and welcomed to site by Lodge Park’s Construction Director, Steve Dayer; Cllr Allen was able to see first-hand how the development has taken shape since his last visit which is now home to many families who have moved in recently.

Cllr Allen, said: “It was great to be welcomed back to site and see, from a safe distance, how this development has taken shape over the last year. The development is absolutely stunning, and brings good quality affordable housing to Eye Green; again proving how the City Council’s joint venture with Cross Keys Homes is helping families in our city.”

The development, known as Castle Acre, consists of a mixture of two and three bedroom high quality family homes and has received grant funding support from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to help fund 25 of the new builds. All homes are let under affordable rent tenancies which has helped to ease the demand for much needed affordable housing in Peterborough.

Claire Higgins, Chief Executive of CKH and a Medesham Homes’ Board Member, added: “We are so delighted with these new homes which also include five much needed lifetime homes. They are all built to an extremely high standard with high specification kitchens and bathrooms, and carpets laid throughout.

“These new properties have helped to provide many families with an affordable place to call home in the lovely village of Eye Green and I hope that everyone who has moved in here will be extremely happy.”

Steve Dayer, Construction Director at Lodge Park Limited and developers of this new site, added: “We are extremely proud to have been part of the design and delivery team for Castle Acre, providing new quality homes for families in the area. Thanks to our dedicated team’s hard work and determination we have successfully delivered 35 properties within the build programme, not only meeting the challenges any new build project brings but also the additional challenges lockdown has brought our way.

“Castle Acre will surely be one of our flagship developments and we sincerely hope to be able to work with Medesham Homes and Cross Keys Homes (CKH) in the future.”

In just over two and a half years, Medesham Homes has developed 94 new affordable homes for Peterborough.
