Peterborough composer advocates more connection between local orchestras and composers

Peterborough composer Joanna Borrett’s new string orchestra piece - Interlude - is being released today (October 27) by Signum Classics.

Interlude is the third string orchestra piece of Joanna’s that has been released this year, and her music has been chosen for Spotify’s New Classical playlist and is played regularly on BBC Radio 3.

“This is an exciting time for me,” said Joanna - who started composing in her mid sixties after a career as a cellist and journalist.

“Despite all the hard work I absolutely love what I am doing.”

Joanna also feels that it can be wonderfully beneficial for local professional and amateur orchestras to perform pieces by new composers.

“Classical music is full of passion, and composers can offer workshops, pre-concert talks and even be part of community events. This all helps demystify the composing process and can help make classical music more approachable. There are so many talented composers around and I am sure most of them would be enthusiastic about working with an orchestra in this way.”

Interlude is a romantic piece that was recorded by Her Ensemble last year. It can be listened to on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and other digital platforms. You can also hear Joanna’s music on her website: joannaborrett.com
