North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City Hospital, said 143 patients who had tested positive for coronavirus had died at the hospital since March 24.

Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I can confirm that sadly, 238 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 95 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 143 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and had pre-existing health conditions. They had all tested positive for Covid-19.

“In the same period we have also successfully discharged 465 patients from our hospitals who were treated for Covid-19 and who are now recovering.

“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

While Ms Walker said there had been 238 coronavirus deaths at hospitals run by the trust, NHS England statistics released today said there had been 11 deaths fewer at the trust, recording a figure of 227. A spokeswoman for the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust said this was due to a lag in synchronising with the NHS England dashboard, and the higher figure was the accurate figure.

Public Health England also confirmed there had been three positive tests for coronavirus in the past 24 hour in Peterborough. THe total figure now stands at 452.
