Peterborough charity to offer 1000 free lunches this Mother’s Day

The Zi foundation have made the offer to encourage people in the city to show a small gesture of appreciation to their mother’s this Mother’s Day.

The foundation is family run and has previously supported thousands of people in the city who are either homeless, vulnerable or self-isolating by providing meals, essential packages and handing out free face masks.

Zillur Hussain the charity’s founder, who also runs Turkish-Moroccan restaurant Tavan on Lincoln Road, is working together with volunteers Tania Tasmin, Laima Kontrauskaite, Eva Borakova and Katarina Nemcova to produce and deliver the meals.

The meals will consist of roast chicken, grilled vegetables, rice as well as a dessert and can be collected from one of two locations, either from Tavan at 77 Lincoln Road, PE1 2SH or 40 Central Avenue PE1 4JL between 12 and 2pm.

Nominations have to be in by the end of Saturday (March 13) and the Zi Foundation have already received close to 400.

Zillur said: “We are prepared to make as many meals as necessary, we don’t want to say no to any mothers.

“Times might be tough right now and we would like to encourage everyone to share this small gesture of appreciation. “Simply get in touch with us if you wish to get your mother a lunch or if you know some mothers who would need it.”
