Oakham Ales, in Maxwell Road, Woodston, has announced the job losses after restructuring the business in the wake of a devastating impact from the health crisis, which forced the closure of pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels for months.

The redundancies have been confirmed following an extensive consultation process with the brewery’s 40 staff.

Fears that Oakham Ales, which was named Brewery of the Year by the Good Pub Guide last year, would have to make a number of redundancies was announced last month.

Adrian Posnett, managing director, said: “Unfortunately the financial impact on brewers of the pub closures during lockdown and the desperately uncertain future for the hospitality industry has presented us with immense challenges.

“The massive financial shock of lockdown when a significant amount of our trade disappeared overnight means that it’s vital for us to modify our ways of working - both with reference to safe practice during the continuing pandemic and in finding every efficiency possible to ensure our survival.

He added: “It’s been extremely difficult for us to have to lose many really excellent members of staff and we hope that they can find employment in sectors of the economy less hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.”
