Operator of Peterborough College and University Centre Peterborough awarded more than £2m by government for ‘major upgrades’
£38 million has been committed to repair and maintain colleges in the East of England
An education group which runs Peterborough College and University Centre Peterborough has been awarded more than £2 million by the Department for Education to “restore pride” in its facilities.
Inspire Education Group, which operates the two sites as well as Stamford College, has received £2,391,598.37 as part of a £38 million government commitment to rejuvenate “run-down” colleges.
The money will be spent on areas such as repairing leaky roofs, fixing broken windows and updating worn-out heating systems.

Colleges will be given the flexibility to decide how the funding is spent, so it can be directed where it is needed most.
The government says that the upgrades will restore pride in the East of England’s colleges and break down barriers to opportunity for students, with fewer disruptions to lessons, more comfortable learning environments, and better spaces for students to focus and succeed.
Inspire Education Group was formed in 2020 through the merger of Peterborough Regional College, University Centre Peterborough, and New College Stamford.
Skills Minister Jacqui Smith said: “The young people in these colleges are the engineers, bricklayers and designers of the future, and they and the dedicated staff teaching them deserve the best possible environment to learn and succeed.
“This £56 million investment will repair and modernise facilities across all 19 colleges in the East of England, giving young people the spaces they need to build the skills they need for good careers, helping to drive economic growth.”
The Peterborough Telegraph has contacted Inspire Education Group for comment.
