New artwork celebrates 90 years of Peterborough Lido
All 55 cubicle doors at Peterborough Lido have been transformed with a collection of memories to showcase ‘Life at the Lido’ over the last 90 years.
The doors feature photographs from 1936 through to the present day, highlighting everything that makes the Lido so special.
The team who operate the Lido said; “as well as having a big party weekend and season packed with special events to celebrate 90 years, we also wanted to create something permanent that visitors can enjoy year after year. The history of the Lido is so important, you only have to read a few of the memories to appreciate just what it means to people – the overwhelming sentiment is how much people appreciate it”.
The artwork has been generously funded by car retailer Big Motoring World, who were keen to be involved with the project.

A spokesperson said: “Peterborough is more than just home to our Fengate store and National Preparation Centre. Our commitment to the local community is reflected in our partnership with the iconic Peterborough Lido, supporting a heritage initiative that celebrates the history of this much-loved landmark while creating something lasting for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come”.
The creation of the display links to the Life at the Lido exhibition at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery that opened in April and was curated with help from The Friends of Peterborough Lido who have produced their own book, packed with photographs and memories.
