An application has been submitted to Fenland District Council for land west of Wype Road.

If approved it would lead to consent for the development of the site with a further, more detailed, application needing consent before works could begin.

The greenfield site is located adjacent to the junction with Mayfield Road towards the southern edge of the village.

The planning application states: “The proposal is consistent with planning policy at both local and national levels in terms of delivering much needed new housing for Fenland and does not cause unacceptable harm to the locality in terms of amenity or other impacts.”

However, the council has received a number of objections from local residents.

At the centre of these are concerns that the road - which is said to already suffer from congestion - will become “dangerous,” including at the junction with the A605.

Other objections relate to wildlife in the area, which is said to include birds and deer, as well as a loss of privacy.
