More than 100 jobs to be created with £55 million development in Peterborough

The £55 million development, which will be called Delta Park, is earmarked for the former Mars Petcare site in Shrewsbury Avenue, Woodston.

A deal to buy the 29.86 acres site has just been agreed with Mars Petcare by Trebor Developments and Hillwood.

It is hoped that construction can start early next year with the units being available a year later.

Plans are being drawn up for industrial developments of about 231,000 sq ft and 307,500 sq ft or a single unit of up to 625,000 sq ft.

Bob Tattrie, Managing Partner for Trebor, said: “This is a fantastic site in a popular and well-established Peterborough manufacturing and logistics area.

“It represents another major site acquisition which Trebor and Hillwood have concluded during the Covid lockdown period.

He added: “A planning application will shortly be submitted, with work on site envisaged to commence in early 2021 to deliver high quality big-box industrial accommodation in the popular Peterborough market.”

The developers have submitted a screening request to Peterborough City Council to find out if an environmental impact assessment will be required on the site ahead of development.

North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara, who represents the Shrewsbury Avenue area, said: “I welcome the news of plans for industry development on the former Mars Petcare site.

“It has been a very difficult year for the local economy, and it is important that there are job opportunities available to provide for those recently lost.

“This good news will certainly help some of those who are looking for new job opportunities.”

Peterborough MP Paul Bristow said: “It’s great to see plans for more jobs in Peterborough taking advantage of our hard working population.

“It’s tremendous that so many see the city’s potential and that businesses want to be part of our success story.”

News of the development plans comes hot on the heels of proposals to revive another derelict site in the city.

off Maskew Avenue.

The plans are being put together by Chancerygate and Bridges Fund Management.

Both developments will be a welcome employment boost for Peterborough, which last month saw the number of Universal Credit claimants rise by 2.8 per cent to 24,956 people.
