He has been named as a Peterborough Hero by readers in our campaign to highlight great work for the city during the pandemic.

One reader told us: “Mohammed Saeed from Community First has been a lifesaver for many within the shielded group. He has setup a team of volunteers, who are DBS checked, and created an infrastructure to reach vulnerable individuals across Peterborough all the way to Whittlesey and delivers food packs and even medicine to them.

“He has done this through working with local communities and pulling together people from diverse backgrounds, his small hub from the back of a local shop grew and he has now moved to St Mark’s Church. PCC also refer people to him and where necessary he provides hot meals to families.

Another wrote: “During this challenging time Mr Saeed has volunteered to provide food essentials to the vulnerable, elderly and single mothers. Saeed himself has worked closely with the local grocery stores to put together the packs. On the other hand, Saeed has worked on regeneration projects. He has also asked youngsters to help with his projects, which has the advantage of keeping the younger generation away from trouble and occupying them to do something else, which benefits individual’s mental health. Mr Saeed is an incredible person who would go the extra mile to help the city, organisations and individuals.

He and his team at Community First are doing a exceptional job in helping to deliver essentials to the elderly and most vulnerable and those that are hard to reach as well as those not being supported by the council and other bodies.”
