Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, who attended the former St Paul’s School and Peterborough Technical College, received his honour at Buckingham Palace with wife Jacqueline and children Adam and Alex in attendance.

Professor Pirmohamed, who works at the University of Liverpool, undertakes research which matches which drug is best for an individual with conditions such as HIV and epilepsy.

He received his knighthood straight after Van Morrison.

He said: “I was surprised but honoured to be able to receive such an award. Prince Charles had a quick chat with me - he just asked me about my work.”
