A footballing family have named their baby after a Peterborough United defender - who has promised to meet the youngster after lockdown.

Baby Frankie James is already donning a Posh shirt – thanks to his superfan mum and dad.

At just seven-months-old, he has already gained attention from the football club for his name being slightly similar to Frankie Kents’.

The third baby born into his family, Frankie has a older brother and sister who have both Kent and the former player, Szmodics, on their Posh shirts – so it was likely he would follow in their footsteps.

His mum, Melissa, told the Peterborough Telegraph: “I was never really a massive football fan until I got with my partner.

"We don’t live far away from the ground and we started watching more and more Peterborough matches, and we have fallen in love with it ever since.

"When lockdown is over that’s the first place we will be going.”

Frankie was born to his parents, who have been season ticket holders for two years, on July 24, 2020.

And although he can’t yet kick a football – he likes to sit in his chair and clap Posh on.

"My partner picked the name Frankie,” Melissa added. “He said whether our baby would be a girl or a boy it would be called Frankie, he just looked like a Frankie when he was born.“He is such a bubbly character, he is a lovely, chilled out little boy and just fits right in, it’s like he’s always been here.

"Our Frankie does actually sit and watch the games, I think he likes the colours of the game on the television.”

When Frankie was born his dad approached the Posh chairman to tell him all about his newborn son and how the family had chosen to name him after the centre-back.

And, in return, Frankie Kent sent a video message back to the family wishing them well.

"We had a video message from Frankie and he said when it’s safe enough, he would love to meet our little boy”, Melissa added.

"He was so lovely – there’s not many people who would do that.”
