Men make up three in every four suicides, with an average of 13 males taking their lives every day.

Moreover, in 2018/19 786,000 men suffered from domestic abuse, while the year before 140,000 men were estimated to have been victims of sexual assault.

And on top of that, 85 per cent of those who slept rough in 2019 were male (where the gender was known).

The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence Partnership said: “Across Peterborough the Domestic Abuse Partnership understands the difficulties faced by those with abusive partners or family members and have services to support anyone who needs them.

“Today is International Men’s Day and it is recognised than men are victims of abuse too. If you feel afraid, ‘walking on eggshells’ or are intimidated by your partner, please reach out for support.”

The three core themes for International Men’s Day in the UK are:

. Making a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys

. Raising awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men and boys’ wellbeing

. Promoting a positive conversation about men, manhood and masculinity.
