Shoppers queued from the early morning for the opening of a new Poundstretcher store in Peterborough.

Scores of eager shoppers began queuing from 6.30am yesterday (December 3) outside the new store at the Bretton Centre.

The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Judy Fox, was the guest of honour who cut the ribbon to officially open the new store, which employs 15 people.

Also on hand to keep shoppers entertained was The JJ Show who amazed customers with his balloon artistry for the children and magic tricks for the parents.

A spokesperson for Poundstretcher said: “It was a great turnout at the Bretton Centre.

"We had customers queuing from 6.30am, which was wonderful to see.

“The Mayor cut the ribbon and helped welcome the first customers through the doors.”

Andy Aktinson, chief executive of Poundstretcher, said: “Consumers are still finding things difficult and that’s why we’ve committed to bring Poundstretcher closer to even more customers and ensure they too can benefit from our great quality branded and non-branded products at market leading prices.”

It is the second Poundstretcher in Peterborough with the first outlet based in the Rivergate Centre in the city centre.

The new store will offer branded and non-branded products, including clothing, DIY, gardening, health and beauty, home décor, snacks, storage, sweets and drinks. It will also be home to the Pet Hut, with hundreds of products for pet owners.
