Delight for firm at double award success

The hard work and dedication of Peterborough’s apprentices, their employers and mentors has been celebrated in style,

The Peterborough Apprenticeship Awards 2024 rewarded the achievements of the trainees and their employers.

About 200 people attended the awards presentation at the Holiday Inn Peterborough - West, in Thorpe Wood.

Awards host Melvyn Prior said: “It's fantastic to see so many of you here... whether you are celebrating the work your businesses do to support your apprentices, run apprenticeship schemes or any one of our many individuals that have been selected as finalist you have all done so well to get to this stage.”

There was a double awards success for EML Electrical Contractors, based in Dodson Way, Fengate.

It won SME Employer of the Year while its apprentice Harry Alderman was presented with the trophy for the Engineering/Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year.

Afterwards, director Mark Brear said: “It was a wonderful evening.

"Harry was delighted with his award. He has excelled for us and is now leading on a number of projects.

"The company award is a tribute to the whole team.

"Everyone has played their part. It stems from them. They have all helped make the business what is and have helped look after the apprentices.

“It also helps to give reassurance to our customers that we are a good employer.”

Professor Ross Renton, Principal of ARU Peterborough, said: “Congratulations to all the apprentices, employers, and providers nominated for awards this year.

"We’re on an exciting mission to boost higher skills across the City and region with our expanding Degree Apprenticeship provision.

"This award is a fantastic recognition of the incredible hard work and dedication from our staff, employers and apprentices over the past 24 months.

“From day one, ARU Peterborough has worked in partnership with regional employers to deliver the skills and training they need to help their organisations and businesses thrive. We invite others to join us in creating even more opportunities together, including our new courses in Civil Engineering and Supply Chain.

“As well as being named apprenticeship provider of the year, we are proud to see three of our apprentices – Tyan, Nelson and Kobe – also receive individual awards for their wonderful achievements.”

James Whybrow, the Group Director for Apprenticeships and Employer Engagement at Inspire Education Group, said: “This year's Peterborough Telegraph Apprenticeship Awards were truly inspiring.

"The support from local employers highlights the growing recognition of apprenticeships as a vital pathway into both industry and employment as well as an important tool staff development and progression.
