The mum, who did not wish to disclose her name due to concerns for her safety, said she has been given until the end of January by Peterborough City Council to find permanent accommodation after refusing two properties which she said would have put her within a short walk of her ex.

The mum of two young children is currently in temporary accommodation having been homeless for the past year, and she said she does not know what will happen to her if she turns down the third offer of a permanent home, even though she claims it will also put her very near her former partner.

She said: “I have mental health problems which I’m getting help for as in the past I have been in a violent relationship.

“Where I am at the moment there are security cameras and a warden office so I feel safe as there’s someone there. But I’m anxious if I have to move as I will feel unsafe.

“I’ve been told I have to be out by the end of January. I’ve been trying to find properties myself but the prices are too expensive.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but now I’m having support for my mental health I feel I’m more able to make reasonable decisions than before.

“I want the council to give me a chance to bid for properties but I’ve been told I have to find a property myself.”

A council spokesperson said: “We are fully committed to working with our partners to help people in need of accommodation in Peterborough to find somewhere to live and providing associated support.

“Having previously helped to find accommodation we are fully aware of her situation. It would be inappropriate for us to disclose details of an individual’s case, but we will continue to offer assistance with a view to helping her find private accommodation.

“Anyone in need of accommodation or housing advice in Peterborough can contact housing support team by calling 01733 864064 or visiting www.peterborough.gov.uk.”
