Supermax Healthcare, based in Titan Drive, Fengate, has submitted a planning application to Peterborough City Council for a new headquarters, office, production and distribution facility at Kingston Park, in Flaxley Road.

If approved, the new three-storey facility would serve as the UK and European headquarters and distribution centre for the Supermax Group, which produces up to 17.6 billion gloves per year - about 11 per cent of the world’s latex examination gloves

The application shows the firm, which has 35 staff, plans to create 1,306sqm of office space plus 4,057sqm for storage and distribution on a 1.14 hectare site.

The plans also include parking space for 40 cars, including six for electric vehicles, four motorcycles and storage for 20 bicycles.

In addition, a statement accompanying the application says the company has future plans to establish a light industrial manufacturing operation on a nearby site, which it also owns.

The application reveals that the design concept for the headquarters building is based on the principles of Feng Shui with ‘a sculptural solar shading being the most striking element of its appearance’.

It adds that ‘the sculpture-like design also represents a human hand/glove, which is a direct link to Supermax’s work and main products’.

The Peterborough Telegraph reported in August last year that the company had bought a seven acre site at Kingston Park as it looked to expand its operations in the city.

At that time, Iain Crawford, managing director of the £26 million turnover business, told the PT: “Logistically, it works really well for us, as Peterborough has great transport links with the rest of the UK.

“We have built up a team of 25 staff with 20 based in our Peterborough offices. We also have five area sales managers that serve the rest of the UK and Europe.”

Supermax Healthcare, which is best known for its disposable Aurelia Gloves, hit the headlines last March when it reacted to the shortage of PPE at local hospitals and health centres as the Covid-19 health scare began to grip the nation.

It sent its entire stock of 88.5 million medical gloves, which had been bought by the Government, for use by NHS healthcare workers loaded on 43 heavy good vehicles.
