Hampton church seeks to turn temporary car park into permanent fixture
A church has applied for planning permission to turn its temporary car park into a permanent one – due to rising attendances at its Sunday services.
Christ The Servant King (CSK) Church in Hampton Centre has submitted a planning application that it hopes will enable it to have a permanent car park.
The Anglican church on Silver Hill has submitted documents to Peterborough City Council outlining its request to “Retain existing temporary use of the site as a car park on a permanent basis.”
In its supporting statement, the church, which was opened in 2014, said it “continues to see increased numbers attending church services and also the numerous community activities held during the week.”

The statement goes on to explain that “the original car park sufficed in 2014 but is no longer able to meet demand,” and that “on-street parking is limited and is mostly taken by residents.”
“It is therefore felt both appropriate for the church and helpful to our neighbours to seek approval to use the temporary car park created by Deeley Construction Ltd on a permanent basis.”
The application also highlights how busy the church can be on its busiest days:
“The regular Sunday congregation has increased to an average of 250 adults per week and there are numerous community groups using the building every day.
“The on-street parking provision is insufficient to cope and the car park aids greatly in relations with neighbouring residents with parking needs.”
The church is currently awaiting a decision on its application.
