A Peterborough family that specialises in going all-out for Halloween is once again daring fright fans to come and get their scare on in Orton Goldhay.
Chantelle Demeur-Worlding and her family have become well-known for turning the interiors and exteriors of their Howland-based home into a mini Halloween theme park during the lead up to October 31.
This is the fifth year that Chantelle and Colin have thrown open the doors (and garden) of their home at number 134 to the public. In previous years, the family has chosen spooky-themes inspired by the likes of Harry Potter, Stranger Things and Star Wars to scare the b’Jesus out of people. This year, the vibe is that of a gruesome fun house and, yes – that does mean clowns!
It is a significant undertaking, with everyone in the family getting involved in the preparation and decoration:
"We started in the middle of September,” Chantelle says.
"Yeah, around about six weeks,” Colin adds.
Doors first opened on Monday (October 26) and will continue until the big night on Saturday (October 31).
One of the unique things about this walk-through is that there is an SEN hour each day between 4 and 5pm before the regular opening hours of 6 to 8pm. On Halloween evening itself, the house will open from 5 to 8pm with no SEN hour.
The family go to great lengths to give visitors a truly memorable experience, cleverly using every available metre on their property to cram in as much scary ‘bang for your buck’ as possible.
Chantelle and Colin say they’ve already been really pleased with the response they’ve received so far.
"We’re really happy” they say.
There is no charge for entry but visitors are encouraged to make a donation of 50p. All donations will be passed on to Niemann-Pick UK, which is the only charity in the UK which helps support families living with a child diagnosed with the condition. Sadly, Chantelle’s niece, Kara, who had the rare condition, passed away last year. Take a look through our gallery to get an idea of what you’ll be in store for!
