GALLERY: 20 majestic reader photos show once-in-a-generation solar eclipse from Peterborough

Wednesday’s solar eclipse was billed as the best in 27 years

Thousands of people across Peterborough spent yesterday evening (Wednesday, August 12) gazing at the most significant solar eclipse visible from the UK in 27 years.

During the eclipse, between 90-96% of the sun was covered by the moon for the first time in the UK since 1999.

With little cloud blocking the sun, those lucky enough to get their hands on a pair of special eclipse glasses were afforded spectacular views of the eclipse.

The UK will now not see another deep partial solar eclipse until 2050, while the next total solar eclipse visible from the UK is not due until 2090.

Talented Peterborough photographers managed to get some great snaps of the eclipse, with some kind enough to share them with the Peterborough Telegraph.
