Fresh setback for Peterborough's Higgsy's in bid to reopen popular burger bar
The reopening of the popular Higgsy’s has been delayed once again.
Adam Miller and Amber Higgs- who together run Higgy’s have vowed to bounce back as quickly of possible after being forced to vacate their previous premises by Huntingdon District Council in March.
After applying for their fourth annual trading licence, their application was rejected as well as a subsequent appeal. The council insisted that damage had been done to the highway by the presence of the hatch and the queues were forming a dangerous tailback onto the carriageway, both strongly denied by Higgsy’s.
Officers refused to change their decision though and the couple were forced to look for a new location.

They have believed they had found one in the car park in the grounds of Ascot House in Lynch Wood, however, they still had to go through a change of use application for the site- which was only set to take over six spaces- which could take up to 13 weeks.
With a whole host of customers eagerly awaiting getting their hands on a Daisy Duke or a Redneck Burger once again, the couple have been forced to issue another disappointing update.
The move to Lynchwood has now been shelved over growing costs.
Adam said: “We are sorry to all of the people who are excited about our move to Lynchwood but it’s not going to happen.
"We didn’t realise the size of the cost for even applying for the planning permission and therefore it is so expensive that it's not viable.
"There is also no guarantee that we'd even get it granted.
"Then, on top of that, we will have to pay for a food trading licence, which is twice as expensive as is was from Huntingdonshire District Council. We are not complaining, it is just the way it is.
"So until we can manage to find somewhere to base ourselves from nothing can happen. As soon as we can sort something we will let everyone know.”
On Saturday, Higgsy’s held a takeover event of the Castle Inn’s kitchen at Castle Bytham and there is hope for similar events to take place in the future.
