An application had been submitted to the city council by Wisdom Property Developments Limited for Fleet Villas at 24-26 Fitzwilliam Street.

The proposal was to convert part of the ground floor and the first and second floors into six, one bedroom flats, with a living room, kitchen area and separate bathrooms.

The front sections of the ground floor would be retained for retail use as two separate units.

The applicant had applied for approval through permitted development which allows developers to turn office buildings into homes without submitting a full planning application.

However, the council said the current proposal is not permitted development, meaning a “specific grant of planning permission from the local planning authority is therefore required”.

The ground floor of number 24, and part of number 26, were previously used as a funeral parlour by Watkins and Stafford Ltd, while the ground floor of number 26 and both first floors are being used by Beauty Concepts by Taz.
