First departure date for new LNER Peterborough to London service revealed

Train operator LNER has today revealed the start date for a new Peterborough morning service to London.

The new 590-seat service, which will leave Peterborough at 7.43am direct for King’s Cross, will go into operation from February 16.

The new Monday to Friday service is being added to the LNER’s capital service following complaints from commuters after a overhaul of the operator's timetable.

An LNER spokesperson said the new service would be made up of nine carriages and would go directly from Peterborough to London arriving at King’s Cross at 8.34am.

He said it was already possible to buy tickets for the new service.

Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes stated: “This will help ease overcrowding and improve choice for passengers.

“It is not everything, but it is a start.

“They have also agreed to end 'dynamic pricing' on the 7.34am which saw prices of Advance tickets go up by £30/£40

He added: “There are still creases to iron out, including shorter trains, but this is a good start, particularly alongside LNER’s order for new ten-coach tri-mode trains which will provide additional capacity in due course.”

Commuters became angry following a major revamp of the LNER services timetable at the beginning of the year.

They said that the changes meant fewer morning services to London, which led to overcrowding on the services that were provided.

There was also disquiet over a 40 minute gap in the morning when commuters at Peterborough could only watch as London-bound services passed straight through the station.
