Entertainer Christopher Biggins to lift the gloom as he joins Peterborough Ideal Shopping Direct

The popular celebrity, commonly known as just Biggins, will be breaking the lockdown gloom tomorrow (Wednesday) when he joins presenters on Craft and Create, which is owned by Ideal Shopping Direct, in Newark Road.

The 71-year-old actor and presenter will be making appearances on the channel throughout the day in a Christopher Biggins Variety Show.

He will be chatting to presenters, guests and customers, doing crafty challenges and bringing his trademark humour to each of the day’s segments.

Biggins said: “I’ve been a Create and Craft customer for years, but now I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the show in my first stint in front of the camera.

“Shopping is one of my favourite pastimes, so I’m looking forward to helping people get some retail therapy while keeping them happily entertained in the process.”

The signing comes after the retailer appointed celebrity Keith Lemon as brand ambassador as the popularity of crafting took off across the UK.

Nationally, the craft industry has seen a four-fold increase in total craft sales between 2006 and 2020 with craft now contributing more than £3.4 billion to the UK economy.

It is also attracting a younger audience with many choosing to view it through social media channels such as YouTube and Instagram.

Jamie Martin, chief executive of Create and Craft, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the legend that is Christopher Biggins to our studio to help lift our spirits this lockdown.

“I’m sure he and his infectious laugh will bring our viewers some much-needed lightness and fun.”

Christopher Biggins will be making live appearances on air between 9.45am and 6pm which will be available to watch on Sky, Freeview, Freesat and Virgin channels or via the Create and Craft website.
